At AudioCodes, we’re confident that our advanced communications software, products and productivity solutions offer the very best quality and value in today’s ultra-competitive business landscape. Read on to see how our market-leading technology helped USA-based Nassau BOCES transition smoothly from legacy Cisco telephony systems to Microsoft Teams voice calling.

The Customer
Founded in 1967, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Nassau County (Nassau BOCES) is the largest BOCES in New York State, serving 56 school districts across Nassau County. Committed to enriching public education, Nassau BOCES provides innovative and cost-effective services that enhance learning opportunities for students of all ages and abilities.
The Challenge
Nassau BOCES set out to modernize its communications infrastructure by transitioning to a unified Microsoft Teams environment. The goal was to replace various outdated Cisco telephony systems with Microsoft Teams voice calling to achieve cost savings, streamline operations and standardize communications across all participating school districts.
However, the path to modernization was complex. Legacy equipment compatibility, contractual challenges and ensuring a smooth transition for users required meticulous planning and technical expertise. To overcome these obstacles, Nassau BOCES sought a technology partner with a deep understanding of both Microsoft Teams and legacy telephony systems.
The Solution
After careful evaluation, Nassau BOCES chose AudioCodes as its trusted technology partner to lead the transition. We delivered a robust solution centered around our Microsoft-certified Mediant 800 session border controllers (SBCs). These SBCs ensured seamless connectivity with the PSTN and legacy systems while safeguarding communications with advanced security protocols.
To complement this, AudioCodes’ Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) solutions provided site resiliency, guaranteeing uninterrupted voice services across the network. Additionally, the organization deployed AudioCodes C455HD Teams-native business phones, equipped with expansion modules for a user-friendly, modern experience.
To streamline management, Nassau BOCES implemented the AudioCodes One Voice Operations Center (OVOC) for comprehensive device monitoring and quality oversight. The AudioCodes Device Manager further empowered IT staff to remotely configure, monitor and troubleshoot devices, ensuring a smooth rollout.
The Results
With AudioCodes’ support, Nassau BOCES successfully transformed its communications infrastructure, achieving a unified, reliable and cost-effective solution. The move to Microsoft Teams voice calling not only improved efficiency and productivity but also delivered substantial cost savings, especially through more favorable Microsoft licensing compared to Cisco.
The enhanced management tools allowed Nassau BOCES to maintain in-house IT support, reducing ongoing support costs. The new standardized system also empowered staff and administrators, enhancing productivity and fostering a collaborative environment across all participating school districts.
“AudioCodes’ solutions provided the security, reliability and ease of management we needed, while delivering significant cost savings and a seamless transition to Microsoft Teams voice calling.”
