Boston, Fall VON 2005 Conference & Expo, Lod, Israel, September 19 – AudioCodes (NASDAQ: AUDC), a leading provider of Voice over Packet (VoP) technologies and Voice Network products today announced the addition of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) control signaling to its globally deployed, carrier grade Mediant 8000 and Mediant 5000 media gateways. SIP is a control protocol used in VoIP telephony applications such as consumer VoIP, IPcentrex, Messaging and conferencing as well as for fixed mobile convergence and applications for the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture. The Mediant™ Media Gateways enable access to VoIP services from both wireline and wireless mobile networks. An integrated SIP solution provides Network Equipment Providers and Systems Integrators a high degree of flexibility and simplification in building solutions targeted at next generation, converged VoIP networks.
The Mediant™ 8000 and 5000 Media Gateways address the High and Medium density trunking gateway markets, which are estimated to grow from $473M to $2.9B and from $177M to $637.8M by 2009, respectively, according to the Synergy Research Group.
“We have seen a successful adoption of the products in their first market entry year with more then 10 carriers deploying successfully, world-wide, since the first of the year. We are expecting an accelerated growth rate in 2006-2007 driven primarily by consumer and business services in cable, fixed-mobile convergence and broadband networks” said Lior Weiss, Vice President, Marketing, Media Gateway Business Line at AudioCodes. “This latest addition to our Media Gateways will allow carriers to rapidly deploy, ever-changing SIP services and applications in a simple flexible architecture”.
"Our research underlines that SIP is the leading signaling protocol for carrier VoIP networks and increasingly so", said Kevin Mitchell, Principal Analyst with Infonetics Research. "In our July study, 77% of respondents will use SIP between their Softswitches and media gateways in 2006. As the top driver for deployment is new services, SIP plays a key role in bringing that objective to the market. The addition of SIP to the Mediant family of media gateways provides valuable utility to AudioCodes’ customer base to develop and deploy SIP-based solutions.”
The Mediant™ 8000 and Mediant™ 5000 Media Gateways are the large- & medium-sized members of the AudioCodes’ family of market-ready, standards-compliant converged media gateway products designed for the wireline, cable and wireless carrier environments. The Mediant™ Media Gateways are deployed as trunking gateways for residential and business VoIP services in Cable and Broadband networks, connectivity gateways mediating between networks in various fixed-mobile convergence applications, UMTS R4/R5 compliant gateways and as Media Gateways in a SIP IMS network architecture enabling VoIP access from multiple access networks to a variety of SIP Applications and Services – all on the same common hardware and software. The Mediant family of media gateway is able to scale up, as well as scale down, providing our customers a common solution to cost-effectively address the varying requirements of network deployments.
